Prepping your skin for a great shaving experience is the key to a smooth shave.
-
The first step to start with is splashing your face with warm water which will soften your stubble, your skin and also open up your pores.
-
Wipe your face leaving it damp and then proceed to take 2 pumps of the Forest Hill Pre Shave Oil on your palm, followed by a generous application of the oil on facial areas you intend to shave. Massage your face nicely for around 20-30 seconds.
-
The next step would be to choose the kind of shaving lubricant you wish to use. While we recommend using shaving creams (Forest Hill Aqua Shaving Cream), since they usually contain the least amount of alcohol and also lock in moisture, foams & gels are chosen for their convenience of application with the downside being the increased percentage in alcohol content.
-
If the shaving cream is your chosen product, it is best paired with the Forest Hill Ashford Brush. Wet the brush under a stream of running water. The brush assists with softening and raising the hair off your stubble, exfoliating and creating a thicker, more emollient lather.
-
Apply a blob of cream on your face and using the brush in a circular motion create a thick rich lather.
-
Your razor is one of the most important tools of your shave. You could either use the popularly used cartridge razor (3 or 6 blade), a safety razor, a straight razor or even an electric razor (All our shaving products are compatible with electric razors for a wet shave.)
-
Begin shaving with light gentle strokes, going with the grain, improvising your razor direction at certain places as your facial hair grow in different directions. Shave in the direction that feels most comfortable for your skin. An “against the grain” shave is tempting as it gives you the cleanest result, however make sure you apply sufficient pre shave oil to prevent skin irritation and cuts.
-
Rinse the razor under a tap or rinse with water inside your shaving bowl to prevent clogging up your razor. Avoid tapping your razor against the sink/ shaving bowl as this can damage the blade & razor.
-
The last and final step of your perfect shave would be rinsing your face with cold water, patting it dry with a fresh clean towel and applying an after shave.
-
Using an After Shave product is as important as using a Pre Shave as this helps restore the natural moisture and hydration levels in your skin. After Shave products are of two types:- with alcohol and alcohol free and could be either a cream, gel, lotion, balm or a spray.
-
An After Shave Balm without alcohol is preferred as alcohol tends to be extremely drying and is not the best ingredient to be used on a long term basis for your face. You can always opt for the Forest Hill After Shave Balm, which is free from alcohol and contains an SPF 45.
